The business was founded by Hope Miller, a World War II veteran, who returned to his home community of Hillsboro to form a partnership in the funeral business. In 1959, Miller opened his own business as a sole proprietor at the present location of Thompson Funeral Home.

In October 1981, Steven W. Thompson joined the business, and together with Hope Miller, formed the Hope Miller Funeral Home. They worked together to serve the Hillsboro community until Hope retired in April of 1986. At present, Steven W. Thompson continues to operate the Hillsboro funeral home and looks forward to serving the community for many years to come.
